About the Format
All footage is filmed on an authentic 1998 Sony TRV103 Hi8 camcorder and recorded directly to Hi8 tape. Video quality, colors, motion blur, tape artifacts, and other quirks are part of the aesthetic and may vary depending on lighting and filming conditions. This is genuine analog camcorder footage, not a digital filter or effect.
Audio
Audio is recorded directly through the camcorder's built-in microphone and will have the lo-fi, compressed sound typical of consumer camcorders from the late 1990s. For live performances and convention environments, audio may be distorted, noisy, or "crunchy."
If clean audio is important for your project, I recommend treating these videos primarily as a visual product and using a separate audio recording, studio track, or existing performance audio when editing.
Aspect Ratio
Footage is recorded in its original 4:3 aspect ratio, the standard format used by camcorders of this era.
This format works best for YouTube, music videos, event recaps, archival-style content, and nostalgia-focused projects. While footage can be adapted for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts, significant cropping may be required, which can remove parts of the image and alter the original framing.
Tape & Recording Notes
Because footage is recorded to physical Hi8 tape, occasional visual imperfections such as tape noise, dropouts, tracking artifacts, overexposure, lens flare, and motion blur may occur
